Injury Scare For Godolphin`s Pugin

Irish St Leger runner-up Pugin has suffered a slight setback in his build-up to next month`s Melbourne Cup.

Godolphin`s four-year-old has had his hind leg poulticed after he knocked it on Wednesday afternoon.

Racing Victoria`s spokesman Mark Player confirmed that Pugin had lashed out and kicked a panel in his box at the Sandown quarantine centre.

Player said the ex-John Oxx-trained horse had twisted a plate and, after he was reshod, had a light poultice applied to his injured leg as a precaution against bruising and infection.

Pugin pleased his Godolphin handlers on Wednesday and was able to be walked. The setback sent a scare through the Godolphin camp just 18 days before the big event.

Pugin has been the best-backed runner in the Melbourne Cup and is second favourite behind his Curragh conqueror Vinnie Roe.
